Help Wanted: Relationships

As many of you know, my first child is due in October. We are excited and a little scared of this new journey in our lives. We’re about halfway through the pregnancy now, and I’m not sure why it took so long for me to realize this, but last week it hit me; I’ve never done this before! I’m gonna be a….Dad?!?!

I don’t feel prepared. Does anyone ever feel completely prepared to be a new parent? I doubt it. I want everything to go smoothly and do all the right things as a father (which I’m sure is unrealistic). I want to be patient, loving, firm, wise, and a million other things. When I began to realize all of these things I quickly ran to the best resource to get prepared; the Internet!

OK, the Internet is not the best resource for many things, but you’re about to see where I’m going with this. I’m sure many of you have heard of the organization Focus on the Family. I have already grown to love this resource as a soon-to-be Dad. It is a Christian organization with numerous amounts of resources devoted to growing families into God’s mold. It focuses on parenting, marriage, life challenges, and faith.

Within the last week I’ve read articles on toddlers, discipline, and what to expect as a parent. Keep in mind that all of the information from this organization is given from a responsible, Godly, Biblical, Christian perspective.

There is something on here for everyone. Maybe you don’t have children yet. Well, check out the marriage section of the site and just browse around. Single? Look under the faith section for information solely devoted to Christian singles. Our families and relationships should be a bright light on a hill for the rest of the world to see. The family is an institution of God and we should strive to practice it God’s way. I hope this becomes a favorite resource of yours in trying to live with others God’s way.

Jeff, thanks for sharing! I love focus on the family…You can find advice for just about any issue that comes your way :) maybe even how to turn a hallway into a pitching runway. There is also a resouce that I use a lot called imom.com (of course it focuses on Moms but I think there is a Dad counterpart)

the counterpart is called all pro dads–Tony Dungey is a spokesman
