Main Street Project
Starting in August, our group of children took on an awesome goal of mirroring Christ love and being an example of that to our community. We started thinking of ways we can have the heart of a “servant” and do things for others without asking for anything in return. Little did we know when we set out on this journey how blessed we would be.
The first project that we tackled was giving a gift to the businesses along Main St. in our town. We decided to get large pots and fill them with soil and a bright green palm tree. Once planted, they were tall and wide enough to make a large impact outside of their storefronts. The potted plants ended up costing a little over $50.00 each. We counted up and saw that we needed right around 35 plants to donate. Every child was challenged to get a sponsor for their pot. Some children were able to get sponsors for several pots and others were unable to get any help. No matter the outcome of the sponsorship we decided to press on with the task. On a warm Thursday morning we met in the Church parking lot and began to assemble our gifts. What a wonderful “messy” time of fellowship that was. After they were all planted, watered and loaded into three different trucks we set out in a caravan of vehicles and began to stop at the businesses and the children with the help of some wonderful parents presented the owners with our small token of love and appreciation. The children walked up and told them “We are the children of The Church on the Hill and we want to give you this plant and tell you we appreciate your business and that we love our community”. Many of the business people were amazed. Many offered money or beverages as a thank you for our efforts. Almost every one of them could not believe we brought them something and asked for NOTHING in return. They were very gracious and excited to proudly have them sit outside of their front doors.
In the weeks following our “Main Street Project” we have received several thank you cards, phone calls and emails which expressed great gratitude. We even had a note written to the editor of the Ledger commenting on how beautiful the plants look all along the road. A newspaper reporter came out and took an interview which should be in the News Chief. Wow! Talk about an impact. It is so hard to believe that we live in a society that is amazed or even dumbfounded by a random act of kindness. We have taken a verse from the bible to be our motto as we set out to do many more things of this nature.
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
May the smallest ones of our congregation be an example or help light a spark in you to look around and see needs of others? Get up and get involved. The harvest is white and the laborers are few.

Pastor Bullington and Audra Emrich,
Many kudos to you and your youth!! The Main Street Project was a wonderful gift for the businesses and provided an attractive greenery for their frontage. With community involvement and projects such as yours, we can all work together to better our community. Please give a heartfelt thank you to all of your sponsors and participants for the wonderful job. You have done alot with the children in your congregation and should be very proud of your accomplishments. Furthermore, it was a giving gesture that speaks volumes of the caliber of the youth of Dundee Baptist Church and their mentorship.
Thank you,
